What is this blog about?

What is this blog about?

Well that’s easier asked than answered. I became an engineer to continually push myself and learn things. In college I had a teacher that kept doing fun/cool projects on his own because he truly enjoyed it. I miss doing that and need an excuse to be able to create these fun projects.

My girlfriend and I have a semi-successful food blog and the greatest part about the blog is that we continually keep track of our own recipes. We love other peoples food, but we like pushing ourselves in the kitchen as well. Because of the blog, we’ve had to write recipes, post pictures, write blog posts and get creative in the kitchen. It’s honestly made us better cooks in doing so. That’s why I’m writing this blog.

The thing I love most about being an Engineer is that we solve problems in a creative manner. Val and I just started gardening (for the blog) and I was already thinking of creative ways of using a raspberry pi to create a watering system. Then I started to think about how we could use something to collect rain water and attach a pump to it so that we wouldn’t need to attach a hose. I then thought about the power source and how we could hook up solar panels to help power the pump. These are all things I want to do in my spare time.

I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older it’s easier and easier to sit in front of the tv and just use that as an excuse to “zone out”. I know I’m not alone in this, so, Why do we do this? Don’t get me wrong, I have had my days where I’m exhausted and don’t feel like thinking or doing anything anymore. There is a truth that you have a limited number of decisions you can make in a day because at some point you’re burnt out. But, it seems like I’m getting more and more “burnt out” these days. I’m tired of wasting my spare time and I’m ready to do fun creative things with you guys!

So I’m using this blog as my journal, but also as a resource to help teach others about what they can do. I want to use this platform for a journal, notes, blueprints, ideas and at some point turn it into something fun for people to check out and get creative ideas. Honestly I didn’t have to go to college to become an engineer, but knowing myself I needed that push in order to finish it. I needed something forcing me to do it. Truthfully I believe anyone can call themselves an Engineer, its whether you’ve actually done anything to earn the title or not. Other than the fact that I’ve gone to college for it, I truthfully haven’t done anything for myself with my title. So I plan on using this blog to push me to do that. I hope you join along with me and we can start learning together!
